In October 2019 we brought our very own forest to the UK Parliament. We called it #ReforestEarth.
We labelled the first 650 trees with the names of each Member of Parliament (MP).
MPs were invited to collect their tree, and asked to commit to restoring and protecting billions more, in diverse, wild forests…
An unbelievable two thirds of MPs collected their trees. A few weeks later, the 3 biggest political parties in the UK made new promises…
Labour promised to restore 2 billion mixed native trees by 2040. Jeremy Corbyn said that, if elected, he planned to plant his #ReforestEarth tree at 10 Downing Street.
The Liberal Democrats promised to plant 60 million trees every year. Former party leader Vince Cable confirmed that the party’s pledge had been informed and supported by #ReforestEarth.
The Conservatives promised to plant 30 million trees every year until 2050, totally almost a billion.
Ed Miliband: “I think you’ve changed the conversation, and forced politics to sit up and take notice”
Caroline Lucas: “What better way to reach the hearts of some MPs who are not yet as engaged as they might be? Congratulations - it’s really making an impact.”
